1. Coal power is declining in major countries
The decline of coal power in major countries, contributes to global reducing of CO₂ emissions. This is a historic shift toward cleaner energy. The UK also secured a record amount of offshore wind projects, moving closer to its clean electricity goals.
2. European bison released into Spain’s Iberian Highlands
European bison were released into Spain’s Iberian Highlands as part of a nature restoration project; a big win for biodiversity and ecosystem recovery.
3. Cancer survival rates in the U.S. reach a milestone
About 70% of Americans now survive at least five years after a cancer diagnosis, a huge improvement compared to decades ago.
4. Scientists treated an eye condition previously considered “untreatable.”
Researchers have developed a new treatment for ocular hypotony, a rare condition in which the pressure inside the eye becomes abnormally low, that can safely raise eye pressure and, in many cases, restore vision in patients.
5. Two rhino calves released back into the wild
Two greater one-horned rhinoceros calves, named Chandra and Kanai, were rescued as orphaned infants during severe floods in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park in different years (one in 2020 and one in 2021). They were separated from their mothers by floodwaters when they were just a few weeks old, and have now been released back into their natural habitat.
